Dublin Bus Update: Industrial Action

3 September 2016

TSSA along with the other trade unions meet with the company on Friday 2 September 2016 in response to our issuing of formal notification to take a series of 48 hour stoppages.

Unfortunately this meeting produced no progress in attempting to resolve the dispute. Nothing new was brought to the table and we went over old ground that had been thrashed out before at the Workplace Relations Commission and Labour Court.

We are disappointed that the company took this approach and believe that rather than rehashing old arguments it should put its energy into engaging with the Department of Transport who can no longer ignore the issue of proper funding for public transport. If there is a willingness from all parties and stakeholders to engage constructively then a resolution can be found. TSSA is always open to genuine engagement, however we must also be determined to show that we are prepared to stand up for a fair and reasonable resolution to our pay claim.

Any talks or attempts to resolve this issue need to be genuine. Going over old arguments or meeting as a PR exercise for the benefit of the media only contributes to the souring of relations.

At this stage the scheduled industrial action for the 8 & 9 September looks likely to proceed. It is important that we take decisive action on these days and collectively stand shoulder to shoulder with our sister unions on the picket lines.

Over the coming days we will be communicating with members details and instructions for the specific days of industrial action.
