Virgin Trains East Coast: TSSA Secures No Compulsory Redundancy Agreement

25 July 2016

Following last week's announcement of 46 redundancies in Travel Centres and Stations we requested an urgent meeting with the Company in an effort to avoid a dispute situation. We had previously sought an unequivocal assurance that there would be no compulsory redundancies, but recent correspondence from the Company and the staff briefing were ambiguous on this vitally important point. However, at today's meeting we secured the absolute assurance that there will be no compulsory redundancies, and have since received this in writing.

We know that plans for “Customer Zones” are still at a very early stage. So the fact the Company have decided to publicise job cuts on the back of an unproven concept is very worrying for members. The lack of detail behind the proposals raises suspicion this has more to do with cost cutting than improving customer service. We took the opportunity to once again stress that we will not allow our members to suffer the consequences of arbitrary cuts, and that at all times we expect agreed staffing levels to be maintained to ensure our members are not put under undue stress. Further meetings are due to take place with the Company over the coming weeks and months, and we will of course keep you updated of any developments.
