Virgin Trains West Coast: 2015 Pay Settlement

A further meeting took place on Thursday 27 August at which the Company improved its previous pay offer for 2015, and gave a commitment to enter into meaningful discussions on delivering improvements to working practices and terms and conditions. The detail of the offer is as follows:

  • 2.1% increase to salaries or £450 whichever is the greater (from 1 April 2015)
  • 2.1% increase to dynamic allowances
  • The Company remains committed to entering into meaningful discussions with each grade group with a view to identifying opportunities to improve terms and conditions and working practices including, but not limited to such matters as: rest day working; Sunday working; absence management; rostering principles; work/life balance. These will be challenging discussions however the Company and your elected representatives are committed to exploring the matter fully.

The above offer represents a significant improvement over the Company’s previous offer for a 2-year settlement of 1.6% for 2015 and a flat RPI increase for 2016. The offer of a 2.1% increase is well above the rate of inflation, and the commitment to discussions on working practices and improving terms and conditions gives us an opportunity to seek to address members’ concerns over differential treatment between various grade groups. The minimum increase of £450 also means that anyone earning less than £21,400 will effectively receive an increase greater than 2.1%.

For the above reasons we believe the offer represents the best possible negotiated settlement, and as such the negotiating team recommends it is accepted.
