Virgin Trains West Coast: 2016 Pay Settlement

17 August 2016

Following a protracted set of discussions on this year's pay claim, the Company has now tabled a full and final offer for 2016. The full details of the offer are as follows:

  • An increase in all salaries of 2.2% or £500, whichever is the greater, applicable to all dynamic allowances, and backdated to the 1st April 2016 pay anniversary
  • An increase of 2.2% on all dynamic allowances
  • Entitlement to a breakfast item for those who are on duty, on board, during the hours of the breakfast service. The Service Manager will be responsible for managing this offer to ensure that provision of food to customers takes priority
  • In keeping with the Company and the Trade Unions’ aspiration to improve equality and diversity, the introduction of a “Plus 1” travel facility where employees who do not currently benefit from travel facilities for a spouse can nominate a person (friend, relative, partner) to receive the same benefits (unaccompanied travel, same class of travel as the employee)
  • The formation of a Joint Working Party to explore the feasibility of a one hour reduction to the working week, without loss of pay, from May 2017

Your negotiating team believes this to be the best possible negotiated settlement that can be achieved at this time, and as such we recommend it to you for acceptance. The offer represents a significant improvement on the Company’s opening offer of 1.4%, is at the higher end of settlements in the industry, and is 0.9% above the rate of inflation for the period.
