Vouchers for Leavers Consultation (also known as Blue Vouchers)

8 October 2010

Your union has recently been in discussion with the company regarding changes to the Eurostar Vouchers for leaver’s entitlement. Both the company and the unions agree that in order to comply with Age Equality legislation there needs to be changes that make the entitlements fair for all staff regardless of age.

Currently (although disputed through ongoing legal action) the entitlement to Eurostar Vouchers for staff leaving the company is as follows:

5 years Eurostar Service or 10 years Railway Employment and 55 years old leaving under Ill Health, Retirement or Redundancy = 8 vouchers per year ongoing

Since the input of your union the final offer the company have made is as follows:

1. Eurostar Vouchers

- Employees with 10 years Eurostar employment [[employment with other rail operating companies is only included where that period counts as continuous employment within the Eurostar contract of employment.]] who leave on the grounds of:
-# Ill Health Severance; or
-# Redundancy (Compulsory or Voluntary); or
-#Retirement at normal retirement age under the pension scheme rules

will receive 80 vouchers to spend at any time within the 15 year period following their last day of employment

- Employees with 10 years Eurostar employment [[employment with other rail operating companies is only included where that period counts as continuous employment within the Eurostar contract of employment]] who leave on the grounds of retirement before normal retirement age under the pension scheme and who provide proof that they are taking immediate pension:

will receive 80 vouchers to spend at any time within the 15 year period following their last day of employment

2. PALS proposal

Leavers who qualify for Eurostar Vouchers in section 1 above will continue to receive 10 PALS booking opportunities per annum (the same as their employee entitlement). In addition to being able to use these for friends and family, they will also be able to book additional journeys for themselves at PALS rates. These PALS booking opportunities remain in place for the remainder of their lives.

3. Retirement Awards proposal

Leavers with 10 years employment who leave Eurostar under the reasons / criteria set out in section 1 will receive a £300 award (shopping voucher).

Until such time as agreement is reached on sections 1, 2 and 3 above, Eurostar cannot apply the current policies on Eurostar Vouchers, PALS and Retirement Awards and any leavers from 1/10/10 will be informed that the new policy will be applied to them once agreed with Company Council.

Next Steps

Company Council will respond to final proposal by close of 15/10/10.

Footnotes

(1) employment with other rail operating companies is only included where that period counts as continuous employment within the Eurostar contract of employment

(2) employment with other rail operating companies is only included where that period counts as continuous employment within the Eurostar contract of employment

Your Comments

We believe that the new proposals are equality proofed and do not discriminate on the basis if age for those who are made redundant, retire or leave service through Ill Health after 10 years service.

We would appreciate your comments before we respond to the company on whether we agree with the new proposals and invite you to do so by emailing andersoni@tssa.org.uk no later than Thursday 14th October 2010.
