West Midlands Trains General Grades Accept Pay Deal

3 September 2019

Our pay referendum closed at midnight on Sunday 1 September. Thank you to everyone who voted. Over 90% voted to accept the deal set out in our previous newsletter so we have a strong mandate to accept the offer on membersÂ’ behalf.

I will be writing to the company to confirm our acceptance as follows:

Details of the two-year deal:

“1. 2019

• An offer of 3% (February RPI of 2.5% + 0.5%) or £600 whichever is greater on basic pay and dynamic allowances;

• Reporting sickness to First Call (notification of initial sickness), no longer required to report to line manager or DTCM. This does not replace duties and responsibilities of any existing staff;

•A move to electronic payslips with a commitment to support those who require initial help. This support could also mean retention of a printed copy. New employees will receive electronic payslips as a matter of policy.

2. 2020

• An offer of 3% or February 2020 RPI or £600 whichever is the greater on basic pay and dynamic allowances.

3.Replacement of the ex Silverlink and ex Central maternity, paternity and adoption policies with the improved Virgin policy.

4. Assurance that all negotiated employees are adequately covered by the established collective bargaining machinery.

5. West Midlands Trains and the Trade Unions to enter in grade specific productivity discussions that are not linked to pay anniversary dates. Furthermore, there is no commitment to agree productivity related changes if both sides cannot find areas of mutual agreement.

The offer is effective from 1 April 2019 inclusive of retrospective pay.”
