TSSA members will be present at the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Cable Street, marking the defeat of Oswald Moseley's fascist 'Blackshirts' being prevented from marching through the east end's predominately Jewish area by a united force of local Jewish residents, standing shoulder to shoulder with Irish and English socialists and trade unionists saying that the British Union of Fascists 'could not pass'.

The march will begin at Altab Ali park, also significant as it is named in memory of a Bangadeshi garment worker who was murdered nearby in 1978 by three teenage boys as he walked home from work. Nearest tube is Aldgate East and the march will finish at the Cable Street mural in St George's Gardens with a rally of speakers and stalls.

This anniversary is a poignant reminder that the Nazis lost but have still not gone away and it is up to us all to challenge racism and fascism when it raises its head.
