Employment Opportunities and Support for Former Thomas Cook Workers

Our union has been in discussions with a number of employers in the transport industry who have indicated that they would be delighted to receive job applications from former Thomas Cook employees for any vacancies which they have available.

On Monday 11th November over 65 employers including British Airways, Marriott Hotels, Apple and Barclays will take part in a specialist employment fair for Thomas Cook and supply chain staff hosted by the Growth Company, Jobcentre Plus and Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA).

The event will take place at Manchester Central and alongside a range of employers who will be promoting live vacancies, it will include practical workshops from support partners such as the National Careers Service, as well as financial and wellbeing advice and guidance.

Hays Travel Announcement - Our union was delighted by the announcement that Hays Travel have agreed to buy all 555 Thomas Cook stores in the UK.

Hays - as the UK’s largest independent travel agent – has already taken on over 400 former Thomas Cook employees and this deal holds out the prospect of reemployment to more former Thomas Cook retail staff.

Barrhead Travel say they are planning a nationwide expansion – growing by up to 100 shops. More details here

Nottinghamshire Police are keen to let Thomss Cook workers know they have vacancies. The Force describes itself as ‘ambitious in their aims to attract, recruit, support and promote talented individuals who represent the diverse communities and groups that live in Nottinghamshire’. Details here

EMR – East Midlands Railway - Former Thomas Cook employees are invited to an EMR open day on the 21st of October. There will be two slots 16:30-17:30 and 17:30-18:30.

This will focus on the different roles we have at EMR, what the roles do on a day to day basis, where different roles are based as so on.

There will also be discussion of our website and the email alert function where it will notify people about when a job they are interested in is posted.

Government support - Members in Scotland can get help and advice from which, regretfully, is the only government agency to offer support so far.

Arriva London are holding and open day for Thomas Cook staff. This will be on 10th October in their Stamford Hill offices - Rookwood Rd, London N16 6SD - from 10am to 4pm

Stansted Airport - have also been in touch to say they have a number of vacanvies. There is also an Airport College on site where they are keen to recruit aviation tutors as well and would welcome any introductions. Careers information at Stansted can be found here.

Nursery Practitioner Streatham House

An experienced Nursery Practitioner is also being sought to join the award-winning team in Crosby on Merseyside.

This role would be for 24-40 hours per week.
