There have been two Company Council meetings in November where TSSA has consulted with the company on the approach to achieving the £15million worth of savings by cuts in staffing and other measures into 2017.

The company have received around 150 initial expressions of interest in Voluntary Redundancy and in the last week TMI, ECC, OBS and Stations will have consulted locally on the detailed plans for consulting over redundancies and the structure of work going forward. Detailed information on numbers has been provided to our local reps and employees in the areas involved and regular communications from departments heads is outlining specific proposals in each area.

TSSA Raises concerns.

We have requested that the company immediately assesses the impact on employees left behind after this exercise, particularly around the impact on equalities, workloads and Health & Safety. In some areas such as TMI, VR applications are not sufficient and as a result they propose some compulsory redundancies which the TSSA is absolutely opposed to.

Furthermore as the company indicate a wish to accommodate as many VR applicants as possible (up to 150, significantly above the proposed 80) and we have requested they provide a robust plan to ensure that staff reductions don’t impact on the future of the business and our members in the same way that the VR process in 2009 left a massive impact on workloads.

Times House Functions

The company will be holding discussions with around 45 Times House based employees who have expressed interest in VR (a repeat of phase 1 of the other areas) and will be preparing consultation documentation to enable discussion locally and at our next Company Council meeting in early December.
