Grayling has overseen "repeated failures" and is "beyond a joke" - Cortes

4 December 2018

TSSA General Secretary, Manuel Cortes, has accused Transport Secretary Chris Grayling of "repeated failures" and called on Government to wake up to take a "long hard look" at nationalisation.

Under pressure this morning over a damning Commons Transport Committee report into the rail timetabling fiasco earlier this year Grayling admitted Britain’s railways are too fragmented and called for a “revolution.”

Responding, Manuel Cortes said: “Failing Grayling is beyond a joke – not only did he fail to take responsibility for the fiasco over timetabling, he’s only now realising privatisation and fragmentation of our railways has failed.

“Failing Grayling has been in post over two years and taken him this long to wake up and smell the coffee, and that leaves a very bitter taste for the travelling public.

“We know what revolution would look like under the Tories – more privatisation and more misery for commuters. What we need is to take the network back into public hands as the only sure way of delivering value for money and a railway that works for the public and not for profit.

“Grayling has overseen repeated failures and his latest admission of failure shows us that the Government should take a long hard look at nationalising rail; we know Labour would do that and millions of passengers agree.”
