Recognition for GTR Controllers Agreement Reached

27 October 2020

TSSA has this week signed a recognition agreement with train operating company Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) for Control TSM staff.

  GTR Control Recognition Agreement

Transport union TSSA has fought long and hard to secure trade union recognition for this vital group of railway workers based in Three Bridges, Victoria and York. The recognition deal was reached voluntarily through negotiation after TSSA clearly exceeded the membership threshold within the Control bargaining unit.

Manuel Cortes, TSSA General Secretary, said: “I’m delighted that our union has secured statutory recognition for control TSM staff at GTR. We have had a longstanding presence in these workplaces, but gaining formal recognition means these railway workers will now have the added benefit of official workplace representation and trade union bargaining for pay, hours, holiday and other issues.

“During this period of concern around Coronavirus, and changes to our rail industry, it's fantastic news that our TSSA union will be playing an active role in working for the interests of this group of GTR staff. Our union is now recruiting and training reps and we look forward to a constructive relationship with management as we navigate Project Ruby, Project Emerald and pay negotiations in 2021.”

TSSA is encouraging any GTR staff not yet in membership to join today to help strengthen the union’s voice for staff across the company.
