Starmer right to be decisive over dithering Johnson says TSSA

13 October 2020

TSSA union chief Manuel Cortes has called Labour leader Keir Starmer "decisive" and backed the opposition leader's call for a circuit break to tackle rising coronavirus cases.

In a teatime press conference, the Labour leader called for a 2-3 week circuit break lockdown – with the exception of schools – as recommended by the government’s own SAGE scientific advisors last month.

Commenting on the Labour leader’s announcement, transport union TSSA General Secretary Manuel Cortes said: “Keir Starmer has spoken decisively and he was right to do so. A circuit break is what the scientific experts recommended weeks ago. It’s exactly what our country needs to stop the spread of this deadly virus, yet dithering Johnson has ignored them.

“While cases, hospitalisations and deaths spiral it’s clear that decisive action is needed. Johnson's half-baked plans won’t save lives and they won’t protect our economy.”
