TfL Cuts Are Political Vindictiveness - Cortes

15 June 2021

TSSA General Secretary, Manuel Cortes, has reacted to a report from London Labour at City Hall by saying Boris Johnson is engaged in an act of political vindictiveness in pressing ahead with cuts to the Transport for London (TfL) budget.

Labour’s London Assembly Transport Spokesperson, Elly Baker AM, has said Londoners must be given a say over major changes to their transport services.

In her new report – “TfL Funding Settlement – Another short-term sticking plaster” – she calls on the Department for Transport (DfT) to hold a full public consultation before bringing in any further changes affecting the capital’s transport network.

Manuel Cortes, TSSA General Secretary, said: "London Labour is right to expose the devastating impact of Boris Johnson's financial cuts to Transport for London (TfL).

"This is an act of political vindictiveness from the former Mayor of London who knows exactly what damage it will cause.

"Cutting TfL's budget over the next two years is exactly the opposite of what public transport in London needs - a long-term funding arrangement which is less reliant on the farebox.

“Sadly, what the Tories are doing will clearly have an impact on jobs and services, with Londoners and the wider economy paying the price of Johnson's war with Sadiq''
