TSSA Management, Professional and Technical (MPT) members at Translink, Northern Ireland's public transport network have voted overwhelmingly for strike action and action short of strike in support of their claim for an equal pay rise settlement with their colleagues.
MPT staff have refused to accept last year's pay rise offer which, for their grade, was 1% lower than every other grade in Translink. Efforts to reconvene talks with the company over the last twelve months have gone unanswered.
Said TSSA General Secretary, Manuel Cortes,
"The failure on Translink's part to negotiate with us to resolve the unfair pay rise disparity that has so frustrated our MPT members has led to the results of this ballot.
"More than 60% have voted for strike action and more than 80% have voted for action short of strike action. This is an unprecedented ballot amongst MPT staff and shows not just a clear mandate, but extreme frustration amongst professionals who are bewildered and disillusioned by the discrimination meted out to them.
"All our MPT members want is to be shown the same respect as their colleagues with regards to their pay. I hope this strong mandate for industrial action will now concentrate the company's mind on finding a resolution. TSSA reps will seek further discussions with our members on what action we will take. In the meantime, we remain available for talks under the auspices of the Labour Relations Agency. We hope Translink will talk to us there."
