TSSA says Sack Matheson Freeze ScotRail Fares

28 December 2018

TSSA union today called on Nicola Sturgeon to sack Michael Matheson and freeze ScotRail ticket prices after the company admitted passengers face weeks more of cancellations.

It comes after Transport Minister Michael Matheson issued a Remedial Plan Notice to ScotRail after the company failed to meet franchise required performance levels in November and December.

TSSA leader, Manuel Cortes, said, “Matheson’s New Year resolution should be to provide a train service not a wish list.

“He’s the Minister for Transport. Despite the season, there is no Fairy Godmother for rail; it’s the job of government to make things better.

"If he’s not up to the job - which he doesn't seem to be - then Nicola Sturgeon’s first resolution of the year should be to implement a fare rise freeze - Scots should not be made to pay more for less. Her second resolution should be to sack Matheson

“We’re glad he listened to our advice and issued a Remedial Plan Notice but what we need is remedial action. And now. Starting with the cancellation of fare rises not trains!”
