TSSA STATEMENT ON ABELLIO PROPOSAL TO TRANSFER JOBS FROM FORT WILLIAM TO GLASGOW

7 February 2019

TSSA General Secretary, Manuel Cortes, is leading the fight to protect workers at Abellio's Customer Care Centre in Fort William following news the company is seeking to transfer their jobs to a new site at Glasgow.

On Tuesday Cortes demanded an urgent meeting with the company.

Last night (Wednesday) he met with Abellio's Human Resources Group Director to discuss the situation.

Commenting, Cortes said, "I am pleased that last night I was afforded a meeting with Abellio's Human Resources Group Director. We had a productive discussion.

“He has reassured me that our union will be fully involved in the ongoing consultation process regarding the transfer of work from Fort William to Glasgow.

"I have made it clear to him that we are do not want Fort William work transferred to Glasgow. And we will do all we can to protect our members.

" I have asked for a private meeting with Nicola Sturgeon to discuss Abellio issues in Scotland, including this one. But I call again on the Scottish Government to intervene to protect the Highlands economy by using their good offices to prevent these jobs from going 109 miles south."

"I will meet with the Company over the next few weeks to further discuss the ongoing issues at Fort William and also our claim for recognition rights for workers within their Glasgow call centre site."
