TSSA Statement On WASPI Women

3 October 2019

TSSA General Secretary, Manuel Cortes, has urged 'WASPI' Women who today lost their High Court battle against the Government on changes made to their state pensions to "fight on".

Cortes said: “Whatever the High Court may say the Government is responsible for an historic injustice to millions of women born in the 1950s.

“My message to them is simple - fight on. Do not give up – your struggle is a just one. You have the backing of our union and the entire Labour Movement.

“The Government knows full well the effects of this policy – it has added to poverty and even homelessness, the United Nations has said as much.

“It is truly shocking that we have a Tory Government which cares so little about these women who have been so badly discriminated against at the hands of Ministers.”
