TSSA Welcomes Labour's Decision On Early General Election

29 October 2019

TSSA General Secretary, Manuel Cortes, has welcomed Labour's decision to back an early general election in December describing the prospect of kicking the Conservatives out of power as "the best Christmas present the British people could ever have."

Jeremy Corbyn said his party would now vote for an election in December as his condition to take a no-deal Brexit off the table "has now been met" after the EU agreed to extend the deadline to 31 January 2020.

Manuel Cortes said: “A general election is badly needed to end the years of brutal austerity at the hands of the Conservative Party.

“Make no mistake kicking the Tories out of power is the best Christmas present the British people could ever have. A radical Labour Government is now just weeks away.

“Our country will decide what kind of future we want for ourselves and our children. Boris Johnson wants to make this an election about Brexit – but far more is at stake.

“Labour under Jeremy Corbyn offers us a bright new dawn - an economy and a Britain for the many not the few.

“Together our Movement will go forward and campaign with all our might for a Labour victory which will sweep away the years of pain and hurt our communities have suffered at the hands of the Tories. That can’t come soon enough.”
