TSSA Welcomes Signs From BTP Meeting

6 November 2018

TSSA General Secretary Manuel Cortes believes victory in the battle to save BTP came a little closer this afternoon after Justice Minister Humza Yousaf signalled he was open to a range of options that avoid the need for integration with Police Scotland.

Humza made his comments at a "stakeholder engagement event" co-chaired by Scottish Government and Dept for Transport to explore alternative models for devolution for the British Transport Police.

The news is welcomed by the TSSA who has spearheaded the campaign to save BTP as vital and integrated part of cross border security services.

Commenting, Manuel Cortes said "Humza's willingness to listen and consult fully with the experts in railway policing- those actually involved in it - marks him apart from his predecessor Michael Matheson.

“Under the integration Matheson was forcing through BTP in Scotland faced serious loss of expertise as Officers and staff predicted they would leave the force. Now Humza must follow through on his commitment to act on the advice.

“TSSA will of course continue to hold him to account."
