TSSA Welcomes Uber London Ban

25 November 2019

TSSA General Secretary, Manuel Cortes, has welcomed the decision by Transport for London (TfL) to ban Uber from London.

The ride-hailing firm was refused a new operator licence after TfL identified a ‘pattern of failures’ by the company. Uber’s current licence runs out at midnight tomorrow (Tuesday 26th).

Cortes said: “This is a very welcome and much needed step from TfL. We need to drive minicab standards up across the board rather than get involved in a race to the bottom.

“TfL are making it clear that no matter how big or small the company – everyone must play by the rules. That can only be good thing for all concerned.

“I’m sure Uber would agree that we need the highest possible standards when it comes to minicab hire – both in terms of safety for the public, drivers and workers’ rights. An incoming Labour government will do just that"
