Responding to news that Martin Dorchester is to remain as managing director of Caledonian MacBrayne Ferries after previously announcing he was standing down, TSSA General Secretary, Manuel Cortes, said:
"Martin says the decision to nationalise CalMac is the reason he will now stay on - which indicates even the most senior bosses in the Scottish transport industry know the only way to deliver a decent transport service in Scotland is under public ownership. The Scottish Government must bear this in mind as the method by which the fiasco Abellio have made of the Scotrail franchise can also be tackled, and nationalise that too.
"CalMac itself now needs period of stability and staff no longer used as pawns and the Scottish public apologises to for a needless cat and mouse bidding process which has wasted millions of pounds of public money which could otherwise have been put to better use to improve services."
