The Way Forward

Make public transport a priority, with support, investment and encourage people back on board.

About the campaign

As we begin to emerge from the health crisis, what sort of transport future do we want? Polluted, traffic-clogged streets, where non-drivers are left stranded and public transport is side-lined? Or can we build a greener, fairer one that provides jobs, connects communities, gives us clean air and a better planet?

That’s why The Way Forward campaign is calling on the Government to make public transport a priority, to support it, invest in making it better and encourage people back on board.

The dangers are real: climate change, air pollution, congestion, job losses and communities left stranded. But buses, trains, coaches and trams – alongside walking and cycling – can give us a brighter transport future – one that is greener and fairer, that connects people rather than leaving them behind, gives us clean air to breathe and a planet fit for the next generation.

By joining the campaign you can help show your support for public transport.

How sad to see usage of all these services decimated by the Coronavirus pandemic. I hope all the good work and investment made by the rail [industry] and other public transport operators over the last 25 years will not be in vain, and that people will not switch from journeys previously made by public transport to cars.
