TSSA has welcomed Labour’s plans to renationalise the train network in their first term in office.

This morning Louise Haigh, Labour’s Shadow Secretary of State for Transport, set out plans to nationalise the train network whilst offering the cheapest fares to passengers.

Labour plan to bring passenger rail into national ownership under Great British Railways when the contracts currently held by private operators end.

Commenting, TSSA General Secretary Maryam Eslamdoust said “We welcome Labour’s plans to renationalise our railways.

“The renationalisation of our entire railway network cannot come soon enough. Only a nationalised railway network will deliver the world class transport system that Britain so badly needs.

“We will not rest on our laurels with this announcement, we will campaign every day to ensure that this is one pledge that Starmer is made to keep.

“We need full nationalisation now; Labour’s plans do not include nationalisation of the rolling stock companies or freight. There is no reason why failing rail companies should be allowed to make a profit out of any part of our transport system.”
