TSSA statement – Dublin bus crash

TSSA has expressed solidarity with all those involved in the bus crash in Dublin city centre on Thursday in which one man died and three others were taken to hospital.

The Bus Éireann operated vehicle is believed to have driven onto a pedestrianised street - not far from O'Connell Street. A number of people were trapped under the bus and emergency services had to rescue pedestrians.

The union – which represents staff across a number of roles at Bus Éireann (and Córas Iompair Éireann) - paid tribute to the transport workers and emergency services involved in the incident.

Commenting, TSSA General Secretary, Maryam Eslamdoust, said: “Our union has been deeply saddened by news of the bus crash in Dublin and our thoughts are with the victims and the families of those affected.

“As ever safety is our number one priority on public transport and with that in mind it’s vital there is a proper investigation into what caused this crash and events leading up to it.

“We offer our support and solidarity to the transport workers and emergency services who were involved and thank them for their efforts under difficult circumstances.”
