H&S Reps Toolkit
The TSSA Health & Safety Reps Toolkit is intended to provide general guidance and information to assist reps in carrying out their duties. It is designed to work in conjunction with the TSSA Health and Safety reps training.
On this page you will find a wide range of inspection sheets for practical use and H&S guides. The information contained within the toolkit does not attempt to be comprehensive and should not be taken as an authoritative statement of the law.
TSSA Representatives should, when necessary, seek advice or clarification from the TSSA Helpdesk or your TSSA Organiser.

Workplace Inspections
Union health and safety reps have the right to inspect all the workplaces covered by them (this is usually defined in the agreement between TSSA and the employer). Health and safety reps are legally entitled to inspect at least every three months, and more frequently if deemed necessary.
Whilst it is good practice for the relevant manager to accompany the health and safety rep, the rep may carry out the inspection alone.
It is the health and safety rep’s inspection, not management’s inspection, and it is up to the rep to decide what should be recorded and reported. Employers may have their own inspection forms, but reps may use any form they wish – you can view and download TSSA inspection forms below.
