Tory leader offers nothing on cost of living - TSSA

Rail union TSSA has accused the Conservative leader, Kemi Badenoch, of leaving a ‘cost-of-living sized hole’ in her keynote address to the party’s annual conference in Birmingham.

The focus of her speech was a pledge to change the arrangements on inheritance tax on homes, but the union is clear that the Conservatives have no plans to help the vast majority of people in Britain with their day to day costs.

Commenting, TSSA General Secretary, Maryam Eslamdoust said: “What this speech from Kemi Badenoch made abundantly clear is that she and her party have no plan at all to deal with the cost-of-living crisis that so many people across our country are feeling every single day.

“In fact there was a cost-of-living sized hole in the speech, which shows just how out of touch the Tories are with working people and their families. This, from a party which gave us the economic disaster of Liz Truss, just highlights they have no idea at all of the way forward.

“What we badly need is a new deal for Britain which has people, rather than profit at its heart. Labour, under Andy Burnham, is promising to build a national care service, which will be a huge help to those who need it and their families. Clearly the Tories have no plans to deliver changes of that size.”
