TSSA announces more strike action for 9 November

Rail union TSSA today announced new industrial action in four rail industry companies on Wednesday 9 November in their long-running dispute over jobs, pay and terms & conditions.

Thousands of TSSA members will take strike action in Network Rail, Avanti West Coast, Southeastern, and South Western Railway.

The announcement comes after TSSA cancelled industrial action on Thursday 3 November in order to support the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Day.

TSSA Interim General Secretary Frank Ward, said: “It was right to cancel the industrial action on Thursday 3 November in order to support the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Day. However, our members’ concerns over their pay, their jobs and their terms & conditions are still paramount.

“Rail workers deserve a pay rise after years of pay freezes and they deserve job security. These are reasonable demands and we will not back down from them. Our members who will be out on strike on 9th November are determined to have their voice heard”

“These issues are not going away, and I urge the new Transport Secretary, Mark Harper, to instruct train operators to get back round the table and find a resolution to these disputes which meets the aspirations of our members. We are ready to meet with them, any day, any time. The ball is very much in their court.”
