TSSA calls on the Scottish Government to reconsider ticket office proposals that jeopardise the safety of women and girls

Today, on White Ribbon Day—the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls—TSSA calls on the Scottish Government to reconsider proposals that jeopardise the safety of women and girls across Scotland.

The proposal to reduce ticket office opening hours at rail stations risks compromising the security and well-being of passengers, particularly women and girls, who rely on staffed stations for assistance and safety.

Maryam Eslamdoust, TSSA General Secretary said: "On a day when we renew our commitment to eliminating violence against women and girls, it is deeply concerning to see measures proposed that could undermine their safety. Public transport must remain accessible, secure, and staffed to ensure everyone can travel without fear. We urge the Scottish Government to rethink these damaging cuts and prioritise the safety of passengers over cost-saving measures."

"TSSA is committed to fighting for a safer Scotland, where women and girls can live and travel freely, without fear or barriers to their independence. We will oppose policies that put women at risk."
