TSSA Comment on Employment Rights Bill

TSSA today welcomed amendments to the Government's Employment Rights Bill, including improvements to flexible working, protection for those who report sexual harassment and greater rights for Equality reps.
The union also supports other amendments including the proposed ban on the use of “fire and rehire”, and the principle of bereavement leave for pregnancy loss.
TSSA General Secretary Maryam Eslamdoust said: “The Employment Rights Bill is the first step in implementing the Government’s Make Work Pay agenda, which will bring much-needed improvements to working conditions and help create a more stable and supportive environment for transport and travel workers.
“We strongly support this legislation – it is vital that the Government delivers on Make Work Pay in its entirety, turning the tide on decades of the Tories’ anti-worker legislation, and rebalancing rights towards working people.
“We welcome the Government’s amendments to this Bill, which include protections for agency workers, improvements to flexible working rights, and greater protection against sexual harassment in the workplace.
"TSSA worked closely with the Labour party to develop this legislation, ensuring that our members' voices were clearly heard throughout the process and we are proud to see their aspirations reflected in the final bill.
“We look forward to working with the Government to deliver on their manifesto commitment to implement the Make Work Pay agenda in full.”
