TSSA heralds passing of ‘landmark’ Railways Public Ownership Bill
Rail union TSSA has hailed as a ‘landmark’ the passing of the Passenger Railway Services (Public Ownership) Bill which will see the transfer of passenger rail services in Great Britain into public hands.
TSSA has been at the forefront of a decades long campaign to end the privatisation of the railways and today’s passage of the legislation through the House of Lords means it now only needs Royal Assent to become law.
Commenting, TSSA General Secretary, Maryam Eslamdoust said: “This really is a landmark moment paving the way for our railways to return to public hands, where they belong, as a vital service.
“Our union has long been clear that privatisation was a mess only benefitting shareholders. That has proved to be the case year in year out, amid ever increasing delays, cancellations and rising rip off fares.
“It’s great to see the Labour government making good on its keystone election promise to get the railways working again for working people. It is something which will be widely welcomed, not least by our members.”
