TSSA speaks out against “poverty pay” in TransPennine Express

TSSA today blasted Transpennine Express (TPE) for inflicting “poverty pay” on its staff.

Last year TPE had to increase its pay to staff in roles like Customer Delivery Manager to comply with minimum wage legislation. TSSA is warning that the company is at risk of having to do that again in 2025.

TSSA General Secretary Maryam Eslamdoust said: “TSSA has real concerns about the wages of members working in TPE. It’s appalling that some staff, on management contracts, are paid so little that they risk falling below National Minimum Wage.

“TransPennnine Express are exploiting their staff, paying them less than other Train Operating Companies for similar roles.

“It is ludicrous that Revenue Protection Assistants who bring hundreds of thousands of pounds into the business through car parking fines and their revenue protection duties are on an hourly rate less than the subcontracted staff who provide the trolley service on TPE trains!

“TSSA will not stand back and allow our members to be exploited. TPE must take steps to fix this poverty pay.”
