TSSA welcomes confirmation HS2 will go to Euston

TSSA – the recognised union for directly employed HS2 staff - has welcomed confirmation from the government that the High Speed 2 (HS2) rail line will run to Euston Station in central London.
Following months of uncertainty under the previous Conservative government, Labour’s Transport Secretary, Lou Haigh, has clarified that ending the line at Old Oak Common in outer London was not practical.
Commenting, TSSA General Secretary, Maryam Eslamdoust said: “This is undoubtedly the right move from the government and one we welcome as a crucial win for North-South connectivity.
“Only last week we were pressing the Chancellor, Rachel Reeves, on this point as a means of joining up and boosting local, regional and national economic growth.
“Failure to complete this section would have seriously reduced capacity and undermined its long-term value. With Euston at the heart of HS2, we can look forward to a more connected and accessible United Kingdom.”
