TSSA welcomes Greater Anglia into public ownership

Rail union TSSA has welcomed the transition of Greater Anglia into public ownership, calling it a vital step toward creating a modern, sustainable rail network that works for everyone.
Greater Anglia, which serves routes across the East of England in and out of London, comes into public hands as of Sunday, as part of the Labour government's move away from the failures of privatisation.
TSSA has long campaigned for the renationalisation of the railways but also warned that the move will only succeed if jobs are protected, pay and conditions levelled up across the industry, and serious investment is made to make rail the transport mode of choice in meeting the UK’s green targets.
Commenting, TSSA General Secretary Maryam Eslamdoust said: “Greater Anglia’s transition to public ownership is a welcome move, and a vital step towards creating a modern, sustainable rail network that works for everyone.
“However, this must not be half baked. We need a properly funded, joined-up approach that protects jobs, delivers fair pay and conditions, and invests in the infrastructure and services needed to make rail the backbone of a sustainable transport future.
“Sustainable transport cannot be achieved on the cheap. Public ownership must come with a real commitment to long-term investment and workforce security if we are to meet our environmental and economic goals.”
