The leader of the Labour affiliated transport and travel union – TSSA - has called for Keir Starmer to resign and the party to change direction after Labour’s loss to the Green Party in the Gorton and Denton by election.

TSSA General Secretary, Maryam Eslamdoust said: “It's clear that the disastrous lurch to the right under Keir Starmer is haemorrhaging Labour votes to the Greens.

“There's an urgent need for a change in leadership, and Keir must announce his departure immediately. However, a simple change at the top will not be enough.

“Labour must rediscover its radical soul and start to deliver for the British public by extending public ownership of key industries like water, energy, and mail, as well as substantially increasing the minimum wage for all workers.

“Only by embracing 'Real Labour' policies, that must also include a wealth tax to fund public services, will we be able to win back support from the voters who switched from our party to the Greens in Gorton and Denton.”
