TSSA welcomes passing of Employment Rights Bill
TSSA has welcomed the final passage of the Employment Rights Bill through Parliament after the proposed legislation cleared both the House of Commons and the Lords.
The ERB, championed by TSSA and other unions, is set to become law – giving significant new rights to workers on sick pay, parental leave and around the use of zero hours contracts.
Commenting, TSSA General Secretary Maryam Eslamdoust said: “Trade unions have played a central and decisive role in shaping the Employment Rights Bill, investing significant time, expertise, and political capital to secure meaningful reform.
“For TSSA and the wider trade union movement, this legislation represented a one-shot opportunity to deliver a comprehensive and inclusive Bill of Rights at work.
“Unions pushed collectively for measures, including a ban on exploitative practices such as fire and rehire and the introduction of day-one employment rights, reflecting long-standing demands from working people across the economy.
“While no single organisation secured every provision it sought, the Bill stands as a testimony to highly effective organisation across the trade union movement. The outcome demonstrates what unions can achieve when working together with a shared objective: raising the floor of rights for all workers.
“TSSA is proud of the collective achievement of trade unions in driving this legislation forward and ensuring that workers’ voices were not only heard but embedded in the final proposals.”
