TSSA vote to accept Labour Court Recommendations

10 May 2017

TSSA members at Bus Eireann have voted overwhelmingly, in every grade, to agree to the recommendations of the Labour Court.

The company's refusal to negotiate a strategy for re-balancing their books with our union and their subsequent attempts to impose job and pay cuts across the workforce, led to an all out strike 21 day strike in March and April - the longest consecutive days strike in TSSA's 120 year history.

Said TSSA General Secretary, Manuel Cortes "This overwhelming vote to accept the recommendations of the Labour Court is further evidence that our members have always wanted to just get on with their jobs, but did not want to be forced to forego their rights as the company tried to smash their wages and terms and conditions. Bus Eireann effectively locked them out of work for 21 days and left the without pay, and then tried to blame the strike for the company's problems.

"Never has a modern industrial dispute showed more clearly why Irish workers need to be in a trade union. I congratulate TSSA members for the solidarity and the courage they showed in sticking up not just fortheir trades union rights, but also, fortheir right to fair employment conditions. They havereturned to work with their heads held high."
