TSSA represents all salaried staff employed by South Western Railway Ltd (previously known as South West Trains) on a collective and/or individual basis, depending on their grade.

South Western Railway Ltd is a British train operating company (TOC) that operates commuter services from its Central London terminus at London Waterloo to south west London, suburban services in the counties of Surrey, Hampshire, Berkshire and Dorset, as well as regional services in Devon, Somerset and Wiltshire. Under the brand Island Line, it operates services on the Isle of Wight.

On 25 May 2025, all South Western Railway services transferred into public ownership and are being managed by DfT Operator Ltd (DFTO). DfT Operator Limited (DFTO) is the government’s public sector rail owning group.
