Chancellor's speech a "let down" says TSSA

Commenting on Chancellor Rishi Sunak's conference speech, TSSA General Secretary Manuel Cortes said: "What a fall from grace for the Chancellor. Rishi Sunak has just crashed the hopes of the whole country with that curtailed, lacklustre speech which was a let down from start to finish.

“The government has a responsibility – sacred or otherwise – to future generations not just in relation to public finances, but to leave our services and economy in the best possible state. Removing support for so many industries while failing to properly fund our public services is a deadly combination guaranteed to fuel poverty.

“The Chancellor should listen to former Labour Chancellor and Prime Minister Gordon Brown who is advocating employment, skills and training to steer us out of this pandemic.”
