TSSA General Secretary, Manuel Cortes, has called for Boris Johnson “to go and go now” as a result of his remarks after a more than two-hour long Cabinet meeting about the rising Omicron infection rates today.

Johnson outlined no new measures, simply saying Covid data would be kept under constant review. He asked the public to exercise caution and get a booster shot.

Responding, union boss Cortes said: “This is a cop out. Johnson has no authority left in our country or even with his Cabinet, as the runners and riders are now in a desperate scramble to replace him.

“We are in the middle of an escalating health emergency with a Prime Minister whose credibility is less than zero. While the Cabinet and Tory backbenchers plot his demise people are dying and businesses are suffering.

“For the health of the nation it’s time for him to go and go now.”
