TSSA and Jackie Baillie campaign at Balloch to save ScotRail’s ticket offices

Rail union TSSA and Jackie Baillie MSP will join forces at Balloch station on Friday 10 January at 8am to oppose ScotRail’s plans to slash the opening hours of 101 ticket offices.

TSSA activist will be joined by Jackie Baillie, local MSP and Deputy Leader of the Scottish Labour party, to warn passengers that Balloch will lose 63 hours of ticket office staffing a week.

TSSA says that the move will lead to passengers paying more for their tickets and reduce safety and accessibility for people with disabilities, pensioners and women and girls.

Similar plans were widely rejected in England in 2023.

TSSA General Secretary Maryam Eslamdoust said, “Ticket office staff play a crucial role in providing a reassuring presence for women and other vulnerable passengers. ScotRail’s proposed changes will make it harder for those with disabilities or learning difficulties to get the assistance they need and ensure they receive the best deals on tickets.”

The union has launched a petition calling on Scottish Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Fiona Hyslop, to direct ScotRail to abandon the reductions in ticket office hours and commit to keeping stations staffed in the future.
