TSSA comment on Margaret Ferrier

A Covid-19 test

TSSA today (Thursday) called for the Westminster Parliament to “throw the book at” Rutherglen MP Margaret Ferrier after the Standards Committee recommended she be suspended from the Commons for 30 days.

The Rutherglen MP took a train to London in September 2020 whilst awaiting the results of a Covid test. She then took another train back to Glasgow after receiving a positive result.

Commenting, Acting TSSA President Marios Alexandrou said: “Margaret Ferrier’s actions were selfish and irresponsible. She put everyone else on her trains at risk of infection, illness and death.

“Public transport workers were on the frontline in the covid pandemic and sadly many of those died, often because of people who took public transport whilst infectious. I cannot overstate the seriousness of Ms Ferrier’s’ actions.

“In light of the Parliamentary Standards Committee recommendation I urge Parliament to throw the book at Ms Ferrier, and suspend her for the full thirty days. This has to be the end of the line for rule-breaking MPs.”
