TSSA comment on Scottish Labour plans to halve rail fares for three months
TSSA today (Thursday) welcomed Scottish Labour’s proposals to halve rail fares for three months saying they would make a real difference to commuters struggling with “heat or eat” choices.
TSSA General Secretary Manuel Cortes said, “The cost of living has soared in recent months, and Scotland’s rail passengers were hit with a 3.8% price rise in January – ahead of England and Wales. Halving rail ticket prices for three months would make a real difference to commuters struggling with the choice to “heat or eat”.
“We all know that commuting by rail is better for the environment and we need to encourage commuters back onto trains. Raising rail ticket prices in January was a bad deal for workers and the environment. Halving ticket prices for three months would encourage people to get back on the trains and help Scotland hit its climate change targets.”
