TSSA is proud to be the first trade union to join racial equality initiative Investing in Ethnicity.

As part of the union’s commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, TSSA has signed up as a full member of the scheme and is participating in the Investing in Ethnicity Maturity Matrix – a specially designed tool to measure success and identify areas of improvement. As an active member of Investing in Ethnicity, TSSA will discover what the union can do as an employer to identify and support practical change to be more inclusive of BAME people.

Welcoming the union’s move, TSSA General Secretary Manuel Cortes said: “We felt it was important to take action now, and make history this Black History Month.

“Our union is not afraid to take on issues that affect our members and staff and invest in our future, which is what we are doing by joining Investing in Ethnicity. We look forward to working together with our employees, members and other organisations to make our industries inclusive and achieve racial equality.”

Sarah Garrett MBE, Founder of Investing in Ethnicity, said: “It’s great to see our first trade union come on board as a partner and shows great commitment from them in progressing the ethnicity agenda. We look forward to working with TSSA to improve ethnic representation, equity and inclusion within their organisation but also exploring ways we can support their sector and members.

“The biggest area of our success for Investing in Ethnicity has been the collaboration of the diverse organisations that we serve. Now is as important time as ever, but there’s real momentum and I’m really pleased we are working together on creating sustainable change for the future within this space."
