TSSA praise for Starmer speech
TSSA General Secretary, Manuel Cortes, has welcomed Keir Starmer’s speech to the Labour Party Conference in Brighton for highlighting the incompetence of the Conservative Government while making the case for a Green New Deal to tackle climate change.
Union leader Cortes said: “Keir was spot on today when he said Boris Johnson is a showman with nothing left to show. He’s right, and the people of our country can see the crippling effect of Johnson in Downing Street every day now, with empty shelves in our shops and petrol stations running dry.
“Keir rightly brought attention to the cost-of-living crisis and Tory ineptitude. People from all walks of life are struggling and this is set to get worse as inflation rises, furlough ends and the Government fiddles while Rome burns.
“It was great to see Keir make the case for the huge investment needed to deal with climate change. As public money will be at the forefront of this, Labour in power needs to ensure our Green New Deal doesn't become a conveyor belt for dividend payments made to private investors.
“We want to see Labour put more emphasis on public ownership as part of this work, as we know this will be far more effective in decarbonising our transport and other public services and fairer for our taxpayers who will be the ones making this investment.”
