TSSA praises Eurostar in Ukraine crisis
TSSA welcomes action from high-speed rail operator Eurostar in offering free tickets to Ukrainian nationals travelling to Britain. TSSA condemns the war in Ukraine and is calling for peace and safety for the Ukrainian people.
Eurostar, which operates out of London’s St Pancras International station, is encouraging Ukrainian nationals who have a valid visa to speak to Eurostar staff at Paris Nord, Brussels-Midi, Lille Europe or Amsterdam Central stations, and they will issue a ticket for travel to London.
TSSA members work in a range of roles across Eurostar operations, including international train managers, on-board staff, control staff and planning managers.
Manuel Cortes, TSSA General Secretary, said: “Our union warmly welcomes Eurostar’s offer of free travel for Ukrainian nationals heading to Britain and we praise the company for this practical act of support and solidarity with the people of Ukraine. Our members working at Eurostar are proud of their employer’s approach and will support Ukrainian passengers in their time of need.
“Our union joins with the voices across our movement in condemning the actions of Russia and calling for an end to the illegal and unprovoked bombardment of Ukraine. TSSA strongly backs the statements issued by the TUC, ITF and others, and we call for our government to do more to help Ukrainian refugees come to Britain.
“These are dark and dangerous days. We call for humanitarian law to be upheld and send solidarity to the people of Ukraine. We support all efforts that lead to peace and social justice.”
