TSSA welcomes HS2 milestone and encourages union membership

Rail union TSSA welcomes today's announcement from HS2 that formal construction works are now starting for Phase One of the project and encourages new recruits to "join our TSSA family".

The high speed rail project is expected to create 22,000 skilled jobs and up to 400,000 supply chain jobs as the first phase links London with the Birmingham before heading to the North of England. TSSA has argued that the high speed line should continue right through to Scotland in order to reap the full benefits of high speed travel and connectivity.

Commenting on the start of Phase One construction works, Manuel Cortes, TSSA General Secretary, said: “This is an important moment for Britain’s railways. HS2 will bring much needed capacity to our creaking rail infrastructure and significantly boost investment in green transport.

“We wish all applicants for jobs at HS2 the very best of luck and of course, we also encourage them to join our TSSA family as we are their rail union. I l really look forward to having them on-board.”
