Ahead of Labour Party conference, TSSA general secretary Manuel Cortes welcomes Labour’s New Deal for Working People which is being launched by deputy leader Angela Rayner, calling it “the kind of bread-and-butter policies that will win Labour the next election.”

Labour’s draft Green Paper on employment rights promises to improve wages, job security and rights at work, and in turn improve productivity and enhance economic opportunity, health and wellbeing. The paper – spearheaded by Angela Rayner and shadow cabinet member Andy McDonald – also introduces Fair Pay Agreements which will be negotiated through sectoral collective bargaining.

Manuel Cortes, TSSA General Secretary, said: “These are the kind of bread-and-butter policies that will win Labour the next election.

“The pandemic has exposed existing deep divisions within our society and no more so, that in low paid sectors of our economy and in those were trade unions have a low presence.

“Labour's New Deal for working people will start to change this and will benefit every worker in our country.”
