TSSA backs simpler rail compensation – calls for more detail
Rail union TSSA has backed a new initiative from the government which aims to deliver a simpler system of claiming compensation for train delays or cancellations.
Under the new Great British Railways passengers would be able to claim Delay Repay compensation directly from the retailer they bought their tickets from, moving to a single system of repayments.
However, the union has called on Ministers to provide more detail on the plans as soon as possible.
Commenting, TSSA General Secretary Maryam Eslamdoust said: "TSSA welcomes the simplification of buying a ticket and claiming delay repay as we believe it will improve the passenger experience, increase performance and encourage rail usage.
“However, it’s clear that we need to have further details on these plans from Ministers as soon as possible, so that that public know exactly what it being proposed.
“Not only that, we also urge the Government to remember the vital role ticket offices play in offering accessibility as an online only refund system may not be available to all passengers".
