TSSA statement on suspension of Translink services following violence
Transport and travel union TSSA has backed Translink’s decision to suspend rail and bus services on safety grounds following violent protests in Belfast overnight.
These took place in the wake of a highly publicised knife attack.
Translink – the public company providing region-wide transport – said that it was removing bus and rail services on Wednesday evening (10th June) with ‘no bus departures after 5pm and no train services will depart after 6pm’.
Commenting, TSSA General Secretary Maryam Eslamdoust said: “This is the correct decision and understandable under the circumstances.
“We condemn all violence and are well aware that many transport workers all too often fear for their safety in the workplace. Our priority is always the safety of our members and all transport workers, so we support these measures.”
