GWR: Stations Representation

11 August 2020

Tony Price, long standing TSSA representative has recently retired and I wish to send both my thanks to him and my hope that he has a long happy retirement. Tony has been involved both locally (Gloucester), on StationsÂ’ Divisional Council and Company Council for a very long time. His efforts representing stations grade members particularly in booking offices over has been vital in seeking to preserve and improve the working environment, as well as the terms and conditions for you and your colleagues, over the last few decades.

Vacancies

This now creates an additional vacancy at Stations Divisional Council for the ‘Sales’ or ‘Salaried’ section of Stations. This covers booking office, floorwalker and helpdesk staff inclusive of supervisors. As we have yet to resolve phase 2 of stations harmonisation the constituencies are still based on the 3 previous companies namely First Great Western (FGW) Thames Trains (TT) and Wessex (Wx). TSSA is the only union with Representatives currently covering sales/salaried grades on the council which is unsurprising given our long history of representing ticket office staff back to our roots when we were called the Railway Clerks Association. Therefore, we would like to encourage Stations members to come forward to fill these positions, a list of the seats, areas and grades along with whether they are vacant or not are below:

VACANT

With such a wealth of experience having been lost through Tony retiring it is even more important to ensure that you and your colleagues have strong representation on the Stations divisional council We really need members to step forward to be co-opted for above roles for the final months of 2020 until full elections are held at the end of the year for a new 3 year term.

I’m interested in being co-opted

If you wish to stand and have your colleagues nominate you to fill one of these positions, then you will attend 6 weekly council meetings (currently being held remotely via Zoom). These meetings can cover a variety of topics, such as the current arrangements as a result of the pandemic, working arrangements, negotiations on harmonising terms and conditions, consultations on reorganisations planned by the company, along with a variety of other topics such monitoring Vacancies across stations

TSSA has online training currently available for new reps as a result of the pandemic and GWR will provide you with paid release to attend such training and carry out your duties and hold surgeries with members to find out their concerns.

If you are interested in standing or finding out more then please contact TSSA organiser Alan Valentine click here

There are also several local staff representatives; health & safety representative vacancies across stations so please do get in touch if you are interested in filling one of these positions also.

Your reps and your union have been working hard to ensure that you are protected at work so please consider chatting to a non-member in the near future to encourage them to join online at www.tssa.org.uk/join so that the TSSA family is bigger and therefore stronger.
